Wrestlers pin down wins at regionals

Friday February 13, 5 LHS wrestlers competed at this years regional wrestling meet at Golden High School. Greg Kennedy lost a close match 9-10, and Scott Corwin won his first two matches by pin, but was pinned his third. However, Aron Pino, Poe Di and Gerard Ruybal won their matches by pin, and will continue to wrestle in the championship bracket for their respective weight classes on Saturday.

“I definitely think Pino can win [his class’ championship], and Poe has a pretty good shot too,” said Kennedy.

Intensity and emotion run high during regionals throughout the week, but the team is up to the challenge. Everybody that competes brings their A game, and LHS brought it this year, with three of five wrestlers continuing.

“I love regionals. Everybody wrestles their hardest no matter who they’re matched up against. I love the intensity the nervousness brings,” said Kennedy.

We’ll keep you posted on the proceedings tomorrow. Hopefully LHS can bring back at least one championship.
