Fashion at the Oscars: sleek, sexy, and stunning

As with all awards events, fashion is a key part of the Oscars. This year, the nominees, presenters, and friends arrived at the Oscar’s dressed in a variety of outfits, both elegant and sexy.

For the most part, it seemed that the majority of outfits remained in the realm of elegant more than they did sexy. My personal favorites were Anna Kendrick, dressed in a salmon-colored halter dress with a silver neckline, Felicity Jones, wearing an Alexander McQueen silver, flowered halter top and full satin skirt, and Reese Witherspoon, wearing an elegant white dress with a sleek black neckline. All three of these women kept their outfits simple but stunning, along with their simple hairstyles and makeup.

Other women went for more sexy looks. Chrissy Teigen, now a hot item with singer John Legend, rocked a Zuhair Murad silver dress with a long-sleeved, low-cut sparkly top and a sleek, satin bottom with a thigh-high slit. As if the dress weren’t sexy enough, Teigen complimented her beautiful dark skin with dark maroon lipstick, adding an edgy element to her entire ensemble. Also going for a more sexy look at the Oscars was Naomi Watts, who wore a Armani Prive dress and sparkling black bandeau bra. As a 46-year-old actress, Watts is certainly confident in her body and was ready to flaunt it at the Oscars this year.

In examining fashion, it is important to not only look at the outfits, but at the hair and makeup as well. My favorite makeup styles of the night were Faith Hill and Kerry Washington. While rocking her new short haircut, Hill also rocked a simple makeup style with smoky black eye makeup and light pink lipstick. The colors were simple, but they added to her stunning long-sleeved cream-colored J.Mendel gown. Also in a cream-colored gown, Kerry Washington looked stunning with her white eye shadow and light-pink lipstick as well.

Emma Stone and Dakota Johnson definitely won best hair of the night. Rocking her trademark red hair, Emma Stone sported an elegant side-do, with her hair in waves slightly pulled to the left side. As the star of the new movie “50 Shades of Grey,” Dakota Johnson matched her elegant red dress with a simple, yet stunning ponytail and bangs, with some hair wrapped around the hairband adding an elegant touch.

Overall, the woman with the best look of the night was Lupita Nyong’o. Wearing a stunning Calvin Klein halter top with a plunging neckline and thousands of pearls embedded into the dress, Nyong’o looked breath-taking. Her teardrop earrings added a beautiful accent, as did her subtle white eyeliner and maroon lipstick. Overall, her look was elegant and absolutely stunning.

In talking about fashion at the Oscars, we cannot just talk about women. The men looked sleek and elegant in their tuxes. While there was less creativity among the men (as to be expected), there were several men who looked dashing in unique ensembles. As always, host Neil Patrick Harris looked dapper in his red and black suit (one of his many tuxedos of the night). Also donning a red suit was David Oyelowo, the lead actor in the recent movie “Selma.” Kevin Hart also looked handsome in a white suit with a black shirt underneath.

Overall, the fashion at the Oscars was tasteful and elegant. All of the attendees looked stunning in their outfits and are deserving of their nominations.
