On Monday, April 11, the girls’ golf team competed in the first varsity tournament of the season, against all the 4A Jeffco schools. Senior Zoë Allender finished in 8th place overall, and junior Maria Schanhals finished 28th overall. Allender finished with a state qualifying score of 100 and Maria finished with a score of 127. Freshan Meg Pratt and freshman Megan Thomas also played in the tournament.
There was a significant amount of improvement from previous years.
“It was the first varsity tournament of the season, and it was very impressive seeing the amount of improvement that was there since beforehand, we have only played par 3 courses,” said Schanhals.
The tournament was overall very successful, and helpful for all of the players.
“For the two freshmen, playing a course as big as Fox Hollow was a big jump for them and they did so well. As for Zoë and myself, it was a good preview to what regionals will be like, as Fox Hollow is the course where the regional tournament takes place,” said Schanhals.
With the high amount of success from the first tournament, it is likely that the girls’ golf team will continue improving this season. Their next tournament is next Monday, April 18 at Glenmoor Country Club.
