This afternoon, the cross country team headed to Clement Park to compete in the Jefferson Country League meet. After a long afternoon, four of the Lion runners placed top 16 in their races.
After a wet start to the course, it was mostly concrete but surprised runners at the end with a hilly challenge. Some members didn’t do as well as they had hoped but others rose to the occasion.
“The first part is really wet, but there are also a lot of hills at the end, which makes that part hard, but it’s on concrete so it’s a pretty fast course,” said sophomore Christian Sapakoff.
Sapakoff took an impressive 40 seconds off of his time from his run on the same course earlier this year.
“I ran almost forty seconds faster than I had run on this course earlier this year,” said Sapakoff.
After the race today people still have hopes of improving and proving themselves at Regionals in order to secure themselves a spot at this year’s state competition.
“I think we all have done so much better than expected and hopefully I can qualify for state individually and with the rest of the team,” said Sapakoff.
