Thanksgiving traditions

The holiday of Thanksgiving is rooted in the traditions of the pilgrims and the Native Americans in the early 16th century. These traditions are the basis of the holiday. These traditions include eating a large meal, spending time with friends and family and being thankful for all that you have. The eating of a large meal that usually consists of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce originates with the feast that the Native Americans and the pilgrims shared. Spending time with friends and family was a more recent tradition and can be watching the parade or simply enjoying one another’s company. Being thankful is what put the thanks in Thanksgiving. It is what the holiday is all about. If you don’t know how or what to do this holiday, just be thankful and in the holiday spirit.
