This afternoon and into the evening, the Lady Lionfish swim team swam against Golden High School, and both JV and Varsity beat Golden. Lydia Vankooten also swam a state qualifying time in the 100 Breastroke.
“I had a ton of fun and it was really great to win! They [Golden] were a really good team last year so it was nice to come back and win,” said junior Reganne Fornstrom who wants to qualify for state in both the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Fly.
Made up of a mixture of freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors, 43 girls are on the team, contributing to their wins so far in the season in both swimming and diving. The team is near the beginning of their season and has only competed in three meets so far, winning two (against Golden and Chatfield), and losing only one meet (against Lakewood). Today, the girls won by 30 points with a final score of 190-160.
“Everyone supported each other…and [one of my goals for this season is to] become closer with my team,” said junior Devany Shikar who swam the 100 Breastroke, the 200 Free Relay and the 200 Medley Relay.
The girls are excited for their next meet, taking place on December 17th in Thornton. After that, they will take a short break from meets for the holidays and will return to competing again on January 12th for a meet against Conifer.
