Oh the things you can do with banana bread

It’s a cold day and you need a fresh, baked good to warm you up. You don’t want a super sugary dessert, but you do want a nice snack. Ahh, your family member is having a birthday tomorrow and you don’t have time to go to the store. In each of these circumstances, a perfect answer to your issue is to make a nice, fresh loaf of banana bread!

Banana bread is just one of those things that just never gets old. First, it takes common, household ingredients that you most likely already have. Second, it contains bananas and not much sugar! How’s that for a healthy-ish snack? Third, you can do so much with it! You can make gluten free banana bread, you can add fun toppings to it for special occasions, and so much more. Finally, banana bread is just always tasty and great for anyone in your family to enjoy. Here is a super easy-to-follow recipe that you can use to make some nice banana bread for you and your family, no sweat whatsoever!

Quick note: This recipe is summarized from The Joy of Cooking cookbook by Irma S. Rombauer, Marion Rombauer Becker and Ethan Becker. This cookbook contains all kinds of easy recipes that you can make inside of your own kitchen!

Necessary Ingredients:

1 ⅓ cups flour

¾ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon baking powder

5 ⅓ tablespoons unsalted butter

⅔ cup sugar

2 eggs

2 bananas

½ cup nuts (optional)

Secret Ingredient: Splash of milk

Instructions:

First, whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder) into a bowl. Next, in a separate bowl, beat together the butter and the sugar. Then, slowly add the dry mixture into the bowl with the butter and sugar and beat them together. Add the 2 eggs after this. You can also add in a splash of milk here if you want. (It is not on the original recipe, but I personally think that adding milk makes the bread better). Finally, fold in the bananas and nuts (optional). Now you have your batter! Pour the batter into a standard sized loaf pan (greased) and stick it in the oven for 50-60 minutes (preheated at 350 degrees F).

Optional Ideas:

To make this dish gluten free, just replace the regular flour with gluten free flour. Also, to make this dish more exciting for a birthday or a celebration, add frosting, whipped cream and/or sprinkles to the bread. You can also serve it with ice cream.
