This Friday and Saturday the speech and debate team participated in the national qualifying state tournament. Overall the tournament was a success with several members making it onto the second day of competition and juniors Abby Moses and Avery Zieper qualifying for the national competition in public forum debate.
After school on Friday the team took off to the competition, which was held at Heritage High School. There were several events held throughout the afternoon and night. In order to move on to Saturday’s competition the team members needed to qualify to move on in their events.
“The team did great at this meet and almost everyone made it onto the second day of competition” said senior speech member Kelly Steinberg.
Many members of the team did well overall at the competition including Steinberg who placed fourth in humorous interpretation of literature and dramatic interpretation of literature.
Since Moses and Zieper qualified for the national tournament it means that they will have the opportunity to go to Alabama where this year’s national tournament will take place.
For the rest of the team this was the end of the season which went well overall for the team and was very successful for many new and returning members.
“This year LHS has done really well and I’m very proud of everyone on the team for their dedication and perseverance” said Steinberg.
