Track runs hard at Varsity Invitational

Starting Friday, April 14 and stretching into Saturday, April 15, students traveled to the Jeffco Stadium to compete at the Pomona Invitational. Competition was fierce, with an upwards of 45 schools in the running, but the lions held their own, having several students PR.

“The weather was perfect and there were so many fast competitors. I think the team overall had some very strong performances!” said junior Addi Iken

The team saw strong performances from many runners, including Iken, who PR’d in the 3200 run by 10 seconds and placed tenth in the girls’ 1600 meter run, and junior Charlie Meserve, who placed thirteenth in the boys’ 400 meter dash out of 77 competitors. Junior Brittany Line placed fifth in the girls’ shot put, and senior Marina Cannon pulled fifth in the girls’ pole vault with 4.5 points.

“We have a few people out right now due to injury, but the other younger, newer track runners definitely stepped up to the challenge in order to fill those spots! I am super proud of our hard work, and people are definitely improving at every meet,” said Iken.

Junior Brittany Line competes.

Junior Charlie Meserve races to the finish line.
