On Saturday, April 22 the LHS track team traveled to Jeffco Stadium to compete the Dakota Ridge Invitational.
The girls fought a hard battle, and all around did pretty well. Addi Iken placed 6th in 1,600 meter finals and 12th in the 800 meter run. Kaysha Kacanda pulled a 2nd place win in the long jump. Marina Cannon placed 5th in pole vault. Brittany Line also won an impressive 1st place in shot put.
The boys showed some high wins on the board too, with Charlie Meserve placing 2nd in the 400 meter dash, and one of the 4 x 100 meter relays placing 10th.
“I ran really close to my personal records, and I beat my seed in the 400,” said junior Charlie Meserve.
The combined female team scores helped them place a phenomenal 12th out of 29 teams. The boys’ combined scores placed them 14 out of 28 teams. Boys and girls combined pulled a 15th place win out of 32 total teams. Overall, the team ran their hardest and though it wasn’t their best, they still did well.
“I don’t think it was our strongest day, but we had some really standout performances,” said Meserve.
The students are ready for their next meet, the Liberty Bell Invitational, taking place at LPS Stadium this Friday and Saturday. They’re planning to practice even harder in preparation for the meet.
“It’s possibly the second biggest meet of the year, so we’ll be running hard all week to get in good shape to kick some butt,” said Meserve.
