Boys hit hard in the tennis invitational

On Friday, September 22nd and Saturday, September 23rd, the boys tennis team welcomed many high schools to compete in the annual Littleton Tennis Invitational. The schools that competed were Arvada West, D’Evelyn, Ralston Valley, Dakota Ridge, Columbine, Mountain Vista and Cherokee Trail. Though there were many outstanding schools, our boys still brought the heat and were a tough competition.

Senior captain Ben Morris placed 3rd overall as 2 singles. Juniors Ozzie Froelich and Matt Friedberg placed 2nd overall as 2 doubles. They faced a harsh loss in their final round against Mountain Vista 6-1 6-2.

In spite of the tough competition, students came out to the courts during off periods and lunches to support the boys.

“They looked like they were playing well and it was cool to see all these other schools at our school. There were so many boys,” said senior spectator Jaiden Kleiner.

The team still holds their head high and believes they played their hardest. They all had a great time on and off the court.

“We played and showed off our skills well. It was lots of fun seeing my team cheer me on while on the sidelines. I had fun bonding and spending a day with all of them too,” said 1 doubles senior captain Will Dinneen.

As captain, Dinneen is planning to push the team harder and help them improve anything he noticed during the tournament.

“This tournament was a good way to see where everyone is at. I hope we can work on passing shots and down the line shots more during practices,” said Dinneen.

He, along with the rest of the team, hopes they will be able to do even better at regionals.

“Regionals will bring similar competition, so I am excited to see how everyone improves by then,” said Dinneen.

The boys’ next competition is a scrimmage against Lakewood High School on Thursday, September 28th.
