On Saturday, the LHS Cross Country team competed at the Windjammer Cross Country Invitational which was a huge success for both boys and girls.
Senior Addi Iken came out on top in the Girls’ Varisty 5,000 Meter Run Finals, with a time of 18:26. She cleared the finish line an impressive 31 seconds ahead of the second place runner.
“For me personally, I was not extremely happy with my race because I really wanted to break the school record, but unfortunately, I fell short of that. I did what I could for the day though and I ran my best, which is what matters most,” said Iken.
Despite not beating the previous LHS record, Iken did beat 176 other high school runners.
The Varisty boys also did quite well, with junior Christian Sapakoff placing fourth out of 2019 runners at a time of 16:46. Most of the LHS runners placed in the upper half of the Boys’ 500 Meter Run Finals including freshman Cooper Brown, junior Henry Jackson, junior Colin McCormick, freshman Mathew Sapakoff and sophomore Donovan Marshall.
As usual, the underclassmen impressed the upperclassmen with their talent and dedication.
LHS finished 8th place overall in Boys’ Varsity and 10th place in Girls’ Varsity.
“I think the team is progressing nicely overall!” said Iken.
The team is looking forward to League this Thursday, Regionals and then State.
