This afternoon, the cross-country team ran in the 4A/5A Jeffco League Championship at Clement park. This was their final race before regionals next week, and then state for those who qualify. This course at Clement park was a good test and last practice for their big upcoming challenge.
The team was strong as Junior Christian Sapakoff placed fourth in the boys varsity 4A race, a great feat. The rest of the boys varsity team including freshman Mathew Sapakoff, freshman Cooper Brown, junior Henry Jackson, junior Colin McCormick and sophomore Donovan Marshall also did well in the race.
As for the girls, senior Addi Iken came in second for the girls varsity race at 19:00 minutes. The other girls ran hard as well and kept each other going during the race. The weather was nice and pleasant, but some hills towards the end of the course made it difficult. It was especially challenging coupled with the changes between grass and concrete.
“The course was dry which was a lot better conditions than last year because it was really wet. But the course was still difficult with all the changing terrain,” said senior Charlie Meserve.
The team is mostly made up of underclassmen who have a bright future ahead due to their determination and work ethic. The few seniors on the team continue to be impressed with them. And the team looks forward to October 19th for regionals.
