Thursday afternoon, the cross country team competed at 4A regionals up in Frisco. The top fifteen boys and girls qualified for state on October 28 down in Colorado Springs.
Senior Addi Iken finished in third place in a hard fought race.
“It was one of the most painful races ever, but I was able to catch two girls in the last half mile who had been pretty far ahead of me, so I was proud of myself for that,” said Iken.
Junior Christian Sapakoff also placed 3rd, a mere .20 seconds behind 2nd place.
These are both super impressive finishes as the course was extremely difficult and at high elevation.
“It was pretty hard and slower than other courses because there were a few gradual hills, but mostly because the footing was bad and also because it was at 9,000 feet of elevation,” said Iken.
The two runners are really excited to be going to state and have the whole team support them.
“I am super pumped to prepare for state! I’m really hoping for a top 3 finish which is going to be tough, but I cannot wait,” said Iken.
