Tonight, football took on the Coronado Cougars while also celebrating senior night. Prior to the game, the seniors were introduced and walked the field with their families. Senior band members and cheerleaders were also celebrated with posters, flowers and cheers.
The football program has made great strides this year, winning two games(one being the exciting homecoming game) and scoring many points throughout the season. During tonight’s game, LHS continued their progress but fell short, 37-12.
Coronado struck first with a touchdown in the first quarter, but the Lions soon followed with a touchdown of their own, leaving them down by one, 7-6. Coronado then came back strong and got up to 21 points until senior Matt Norwood made a great catch. He then ran the ball a considerable way which set up another touchdown, making it 21-12 going into the half.
The band performed their last performance of the season during halftime, a bittersweet moment for the group who had just recently placed 11th in the state.
During the second half, the temperatures were dropping and the student section was staying upbeat and rowdy in order to keep the blood flowing. Unfortunately, Coronado offense came out of halftime strong and racked up points, but the Lions never quit.
“I think that the team had a good year overall and a big step up from last year. I’m just happy with everything this year, the crowd, the team and the school spirit,” said senior Nico Corradino.
