Girls swimming comes up short against Valor

This afternoon, the girls swim and dive team competed against Valor Christian. They ultimately lost by a score of 196-132, but they still had a successful meet. Many Lady Lionfish had outstanding swims and have many more opportunities to improve as it was only the second meet of the season.

Senior Lydia VanKooten took first place in the 100 Free, beating the second place finisher by an impressive three seconds. VanKooten also finished in second place in the 200 Free. Other notable performances came from seniors Reganne Fornstrom and Leslie Williams and junior Sophie Groustra.

“I was very happy with my events today and I think we just need to continue working hard at perfecting our strokes for future meets. Valor is always tough, but I’m proud of everyone,” said Williams.

On the diving side, senior Mandy Zueger led the team with a fifth place finish. The dive team is very young with Zueger being the only member with dive experience. Despite this fact, the girls performed very well in just their second meet.

The Lady Lionfish will compete against Golden and Standley Lake next Tuesday in their first multi-team competition.
