Tonight, girls basketball beat the Vista PEAK Bison, 54-49, in a hard-fought game. The girls improve their record to 8-9 and are only getting better as the season continues. Coming into the game, PEAK had an impressive record of 11-5 so this was an especially exciting team win for LHS.
The first quarter was very close as both teams played well and had great shots. However, the Lions were able to take a stronger lead in the second and third quarters. Important layups made by seniors Katie Puchino, Olivia Schroder and sophomore Susie Puchino helped secure their win.
“We were able to run the court for transition points and pass the ball well so that lots of people scored. Everyone stepped up to get a really great team win,” said K. Puchino.
PEAK outscored LHS in the fourth quarter, 19-15, but the Lions managed to stay ahead. Their lead was cut to just three points with about two minutes left, however they didn’t panic and were able to grow their lead. Many different players were able to score and there were some crucial free throws made by senior Sarah Payson.
The girls faced a tough Valor team last Friday and PEAK was certainly a tough opponent, but LHS has been playing extremely well as of late. Their next home game is Saturday afternoon against Evergreen.
