LHS is a vast, endless abyss of opportunities. There is something new hidden around every corner. We want to discover the secrets within the school and reveal the unknown.
Our first destination in discovering LHS was the door next to the janitor’s closet, often referred to as the “Boiler Room.” Here is the skinny on what is hidden behind the door.
Wikipedia defines a mechanical room as “a room or space in a building dedicated to the mechanical equipment and its associated electrical equipment, as opposed to rooms intended for human occupancy or storage.” Mechanical rooms typically house the following equipment:
- Air handlers
- Heat exchangers
- Water heaters and tanks
- Water pumps (for domestic, heating/cooling, and firefighting water)
- Main distribution piping and valves
- Back-up electrical generators
- Other HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) equipment
These are the main features of the boiler room in LHS, which also plays an essential role in maintaining the functionality of the school (and in case of nuclear war: a bomb shelter).
Fun fact: a couple years ago, the boiler room was renovated. The lower pipes and other equipment was replaced. The area now looks a lot cleaner and works more efficiently.
