LHS wrestling prepares for league match

February 1, the LHS wrestling team went up against Conifer and Golden in their last match before league.

Senior captain DM Hellett was one of several to play well.

“I pinned first kid in the second period. Everyone else was still improving, I saw a lot of good stuff, a lot of good wins, so I’m happy with that,” said Hellet.

Sophomore Elijah Gonzales had a fought hard and had a great match.

“I really love the way Eli Gonzales went out their and competed. He did really well, he did what he was supposed to and executed, so I like that a lot,”said Hellet.

The Lions have the league match today which is their last match before regionals. Wrestlers hoping to qualify for state must do so at regionals.

“This year, we’ve got a lot of young guys, a lot of young promise, I think we’ve got a good chance to qualify several guys but you still have to go out their and wrestle the matches, so we’ll go out there and see,” said Hellet.
