On Saturday, February 3, the girls’ varsity swim and dive team competed at Meyers Pool in the finals. They swam against some of the most competitive schools in the league, including Conifer, D’Evelyn, Evergreen, Golden, Green Mountain, Lakewood, Standley Lake, Valor Christian and Wheat Ridge.
On Friday, the team swam in prelims in hopes of qualifying for finals. Those who qualified and competed yesterday in the finals include Natalie Parkhurst, Reganne Fornstrom and VanKooten in individual events and Fornstrom, Parkhurst, Sophia Groustra, Carolyn Elsner, Lily Jenson and Meghan Thomas for relays.
Overall, the girls did very well at finals, as many swam for their best times of the season.
“We all did really well. Both of our relays got the best times and a lot girls got personal bests,” said VanKooten.
As this was the finals meet, the girls trained and worked harder with their coach and pushed their limits.
“I think the girls were a lot more motivated for this meet and our coach, Kelly, has trained us really well to get to this point,” said VanKooten.
The state meet will be next weekend.
The girls who are not going to state still welcome the end of their season happily, as they believe their last meet encompassed all the hard work and dedication they have put in throughout the season.
