Speech and debate competes at Columbine

Saturday, February 17, the LHS speech and debate team took to Columbine High School for their last regular season meet. This upcoming Friday and Saturday, the team has the state qualification meet in order to see who will be competing later on in March.

Seniors Abby Moses and Avery Zieper had a great showing in the meet and placed third in public forum debate. Another pair of junior Ben Greenly and sophomore Grace Greenly also broke to finals and placed fifth in duo interpretation.

“I thought Abby and I did pretty well in the tournament. It is always nice to break to finals and we really liked this topic for February, so I think that helped. We unfortunately can’t go to state quals, but I’m proud of our season and the last years on this team,” said Zieper.

Although only two teams placed, the entire team learned a lot and can focus on making last minute improvements to their pieces in order to be prepared for state quals on Friday.
