This Saturday, December 1st the LHS band participated in the Festival of Lights in Colorado Springs. The band walked down main-street and played Christmas tunes. Their songs consisted of “Joy To The World,” “Rudolf The Red-nosed Reindeer” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” It was a competition against five other Colorado high school bands.
“It was so fun seeing the joy on everyone’s faces as we passed by, from the little kids to the adults,” said junior Holly Rossman.
The LHS band is the defending champion of this parade, so they worked really hard going into this year. Being defending champions makes it even more fun for the band to go and participate because they know that they are well-known at the parade.
Because of the Christmas theme, the band all dressed up their uniforms and instruments in Christmas lights and decorations. This made it extra fun for the band and made it more unique than the other parades they have participated in.
“It was definitely one of the more fun parades we have done. It’s shorter and we got to decorate our instruments with Christmas decorations,” said sophomore Morgan Sholes.
This, however, was the last marching band event of this year which made it bittersweet for the band. That made them more dedicated to making this event one of the best and made it even more fun.
This event was a great way for the band to finish out their season and is to get in the spirit for the holiday season.
