Looking for something fun to do for free this summer? Here are 6 things in the Littleton area that are a great way to spend your day!
1. Festivals
There are many different festivals in Littleton with many different activities. A quick search on Google, Eventbrite, or the Downtown Littleton website reveals the festivals in your area coming up. Get together with your friends and spend the day eating food. You can dress up in different themes with your friends and take pictures while you listen to music and dance along.
2. Free Museums
There are many free museums you can visit this summer, including some free museum days. Going to museums can be fun and interesting during the summer, and there are always new exhibits. The Denver Art Museum is free to anyone under 18 every day, and Denver Botanic Gardens has free day sections on its website (botanicgardens.org/events/free-days). Also, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science is free (*free only from 5-9 pm) on Jun 4*, Jun 19, and on Aug 21*. Some more free museums are Red Rocks Amphitheatre & Visitor Center, Colorado Ski & Snowboard Museum & Hall of Fame, Loveland Museum/Gallery, Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum, Hiwan Homestead Museum, Moraine Park Museum & Amphitheater, University of Colorado Museum of Natural History, Arvada Historical Museum, Frisco Historic Park, and the Peterson Air & Space Museum.
3. Hikes/Backpacking
Colorado has some of the best mountains in the nation, and many of the best are just a couple hours away from Littleton. Hikes like Mount Falcon and Bear Creek in the foothills are more beginner friendly and under 30 minutes away. Be sure to double check, but many of these hikes allow dogs and your animal companion would love to go with you.
4. Hudson Gardens
With tons of events and things to do, the Hudson Gardens are a great place to relax and reconnect with nature. With things like Beekeeping and Art in the Gardens, there’s a lot to learn about the natural world not far away from your house. The Hudson Gardens also has a museum connected that is free entry. The Hudson Gardens is now officially always free, open from sunrise to sunset.
5. Outdoor Concerts
A concert is always a fun option in the summer and outdoor concerts are an even better way to spend time with your friends in the nice weather. The Levitt Pavilion has 50 free concerts over the summer with lots of differing types of music, all you need is to RSVP while there is still availability. Another venue is Concerts in Clement Park which has fewer concerts over the summer but the same variety of musical styles and no reservations beforehand.
6. Picnics
Pack a bag of fresh snacks and bring a blanket, and you are set. Picnics are a great way to get out into nature while keeping things simple and easy. You can go by yourself or with a group of friends. Some beautiful places to have a picnic are the Hudson Gardens, Cheesman Park, John Denver Sanctuary, Comanche National Grassland, Mount Crested Butte, Echo Lake, Chatfield Park, Lookout Mountain, Jackass Hill, and Eldorado Canyon State Park.
