This school year we’ve welcomed many new staff members, one of those staff being Mrs. Alicia Amaya, who is new to the math department.
While this is her first year at LHS, she has been in education for thirteen years, working in different roles in schools. She was previously with a charter school district but ultimately decided Littleton better suited her beliefs and hopes for work, and joined us this year.
So far, Mrs. Amaya loves it here. She likes the freedom offered for both students and teachers, and was drawn here partly because of the “openness and creativity that this district allows.”
Mrs. Amaya was born in Broomfield, Colorado and raised there. When she got older, she lived in Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada. Growing up, math was always her favorite subject in school, but she didn’t always plan to become a teacher. She went into college planning to be an accountant, and her first degree is in accounting. She eventually switched route to education and has loved it since then.
In addition to that, Mrs. Amaya has a passion for volleyball as well as golf. She also loves traveling and getting the chance to experience different cultures around the world. Culture and tradition are things that are very important to her, and she continues practices from her childhood with her own children. She’s been married for ten years and has three children and she holds them very close to her heart. When asked what’s something that students wouldn’t know about her, she said that she’s been working towards fluency in Spanish since the seventh grade. She hopes this will give her the chance to reconnect with her roots and be able to communicate with many more people.
Mrs Amaya has a passion for teaching and is super excited to join us this year. If you are in one of her classes or just have some free time, definitely consider stopping by to talk to her.
