As the new year starts and temperatures drop, many people have begun heading up to the mountains to participate in various wintertime sports. At resorts such as Winter Park, Aspen, or Vail, people can spend the day skiing or snowboarding with a day or seasonal pass. After talking to 25 students they revealed that Brekenridge, Copper, Loveland, and Winter Park were the top spots visited with many people visiting multiple places with the Icon and Epic multi resort passes.
Of the 11 resorts mentioned, Brekenridge was brought up 5 times. Brekenridge is about an hour and a half away from Littleton High School with no traffic and 2 and half hours away during highest traffic hours.
Sophomore Johanna Shepela said, “I would say that Brekenridge has beautiful views, especially at the peaks.”
Another popular resort is Copper, which is a 2 hour drive from LHS at a good time and 3 hours at a bad time.
Sophomore Jillian Simmonds goes to Copper and said, “Copper is really cold, all the time, but the runs are really good.”
Also with 5 mentions, Loveland was highly popular with LHS students. Without traffic, Loveland Ski Area is just over an hour away while during traffic is about 2 hours away.
“I enjoy the variety of areas, like, they have a beginner friendly areas like Loveland Valley. But then they also have more expert terrain such as the ridgecat and lift nine that offers skiing on the Continental Divide and some of the steepest terrain in Colorado.” Said Sophomore Nick Beitel about Loveland.
Winter Park was the final most popular location. Winter Park Resort is 2 hours away without traffic and 3 hours with traffic.
Junior Sam Denman said, “I like the trees and the powder, when there is powder, and the bumps.”
Regardless of where people go, many people agree that skiing and snowboarding during these winter months is a great way to enjoy Colorado.
