The Boys’ Swim and Dive Team Finishes Well at Their State Competition

Last weekend the LHS boys Swim and Dive team competed at their State Competition. After a stellar performance at League where they placed first there were many boys headed to state to represent our school.

There were competitors in most of the events at the competition and everyone performed well with several PRs from various people on the team. The team performed especially well in their relays throughout the day which gained them the most points for the competition.

Junior Christian Tieberg has been on the team for all three years he has been in high school. Tieberg competed in the 100 yard backstroke at the competition and brought his placement down from 23rd place to 17th which made him a finalist for that event.

As the season comes to a close members of the team reflect on their favorite parts about competing and being on the team. Senior Max Ratcliff spent all four years of high school swimming for the LHS team and says his favorite thing about the team was all of the people and the friendships he has made over the years.

In terms of next year, though the team is losing many well performing seniors, the underclassmen on the team have been competing very well all season with great times from Austin Hughes and River Hawkins.

Tieberg shared some advice for future swimmers for the team

“The things you are most scared of and the most uncomfortable doing are the things that you should be pushing yourself to do. Those are the things that help you improve in the water and out.”

This sentiment was echoed by Ratcliff who encouraged future members of the team to stick with the sport and to not give up.

Congratulations to the boys Swim and Dive team for a great competition season!
