The LHS Lions faced a difficult matchup in their second home game of the season on Friday night, falling 78-8 to the Eagle Valley Devils. Despite taking an early lead and benefiting from numerous penalties against Eagle Valley, the Lions could not hold off their opponents and now sit at 0-3 for the season.

Reflecting on the game, senior tight end and linebacker Didier Aleman said,

“I believe that we could have had better results, but the injuries and the lack of confidence really struck us.”

The Lions got off to a promising start when quarterback sophomore Kai Durica connected with wide receiver sophomore Angel Jimenez for a 10-yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter. Jimenez followed up by catching a 2-point conversion, giving LHS an 8-0 lead. Eagle Valley struggled with penalties throughout the game, picking up more flags than LHS, including a crucial 15-yard penalty early on that set up a Lions first down.

However, the Lions couldn’t capitalize on Eagle Valley’s mistakes for long. Despite the penalties, LHS struggled to maintain their offensive rhythm. By halftime, the score was 62-8, and Eagle Valley continued to extend their lead in the second half.

At halftime, the LHS Poms team delivered an energetic routine, followed by a performance from the LHS marching band. The highlight of the halftime festivities was the announcement of the Homecoming Royalty, as students, accompanied by their friends and family, walked down the field to cheers from the crowd.

Despite the halftime celebration, the Lions struggled to regain control in the second half. Aleman emphasized the need for improvement on offense,

“I think having more confidence and control of our offensive line can help us a lot.”

With the loss, LHS remains winless at 0-3. The Lions will regroup as they prepare for their next game, hoping to turn their season around and secure their first victory
