November 5, 2024, former president Donald Trump was elected for a second term as president of the United States of America.
Students of Littleton High School had varying responses.
These graphs are representative for 20 LHS students.
Two students were interviewed on their emotions towards the reelection of Trump.
An anonymous student worried for their and others futures described their feelings after the results were revealed.
“A lot of people in my family didn’t treat it with the weight that I felt afterwards” said the student.
On the specific concerns, the student said, “I have a lot of concerns around young trangender people, young queer people, young women, and young people of color as well. There’s a high possibility that trans healthcare, especially for younger people, will be way less accessible, maybe even impossible. I’m worried that hate crime rates are going to go up.”
Having supported democratic candidate Kamala Harris, junior Emmett Moxon was also upset by the results.
“I am scared, as a young person, about human rights and the rights of queer people and the rights of immigrants. Those are all things that I care a lot about and so it’s devastating to think that these are groups of people who will have their rights stripted away from them” said Moxon.
“For all the people out there who are really worried, just stay hopeful. You know, there’s future to come and although it may not be ideal, I think that we can hold on to hope.”
