As the school year goes on, the yearbook is busy with production. Over the year, they collect photos and quotes from multiple parts of the school including football, theater, marching band, art, and so much more.
The yearbook team is made up of students passionate about photography and writing. They attend school events for months, interview students and teachers, and spend long hours designing pages that capture the year’s most meaningful moments.
The school yearbook is more than just a collection of photos and memories; it reflects the hard work and creativity of a dedicated team working behind the scenes.
In an interview with junior, Jo Messner, we asked if they liked being on the yearbook, “We do a lot of group things, so we do boo baskets during Halloween, we do a yearbook Thanksgiving, and we do a Secret Santa. It’s fun getting to meet people and learn more about different things.”
Messner also mentioned, “It’s very laid back, we have deadlines but we have plenty of time to get them done. I found it quite interesting, it’s a lot of fun for me because I get to go to events and get pictures to put together the spread.”
We also asked Mrs. Fisher, the yearbook advisor about the process. When asked if she would recommend joining the yearbook to incoming freshmen she said “We don’t usually have a lot of freshman on staff because you have to apply in the spring, and interview and be selected, so a current 8th grader could apply but usually I would recommend a freshman apply spring of freshman year.”
“We start before the school year starts. We get the editor to pick out or decide our theme, and from there, we build out all the different spreads we’re going to use, and choose who’s going to do what, it’s an ongoing process.”
In one final interview with a design editor for the yearbook, Zora Young, we asked what the editing process is like around this time of year, and she responded, “At this point in the designing process, we go through the groups’ spreads that they’ve been working on for the past few weeks and format them and out in things that might have been missed. We all have a different job but mine is making sure photos are lined up and the pages are consistent.”
All in all, being on the yearbook is a great opportunity to meet more people and contribute to something important for the school. It’s a way to express your creativity and collaboration with others as you create something and build it up together throughout the year.
