FAFSA or the free application for federal student aid, is open for students who are enrolled in any public university, in order to receive aid on their tuition. Along with being automatically entered into qualified scholarships for the colleges that the applicant has been accepted to.
Wyatt Kocol, a former student teacher here at LHS was in the library helping students fill out their application for FAFSA this past tuesday, who spoke “FAFSA is the main way that students get federal student aid, and that comes in the form of grants, work study, and loans. There are also scholarships and certain universities will have student employment opportunities or private scholarships, but FAFSA is largely the main way that students get supported.”
To be able to get any kind of discount on college tuition is a huge benefit for any student in order for them to not get too caught up in debt. Even state colleges can cost as much as $30,000, so any help is super appreciated.
“Make sure that your information matches up exactly the same as your parents’ information. Make sure you also enter your information accurately to your taxes, filling out the correct tax form, which should be two years prior to the current aid year,” Kocol added.
Due to the fact it’s a federal document, it’s vital that the information filled out on the form is accurate and correct across both the student and parent. If you are a senior and plan on going to college post-grad it is very important that you know how, when, and where to fill out your FAFSA application.
