LHS Baseball Falls Short vs TJHS

The boys baseball team kicked off their season this past thursday, against Thomas Jefferson High School, the game however also spilled into monday. While the game started at 4PM within an hour and a half, the sun had set and it was dark out. TJHS does not have lights for their baseball field leading to the postponement of the baseball game, while the Spartans were ahead 6-5. With LHS ultimately falling short 11-9.

However, at the time of the cancellation, LHS had a comeback on the way, with runners on first and third base, and a lot of momentum going their way. On monday when the game resumed, the runners would still be at the corners. This resumption of the game however killed the momentum LHS was finding themselves with. By the time the game resumed Thomas Jefferson had a chance to regroup and were able to put together a solid performance at the plate.

The biggest difference between the teams was the unforced errors, LHS struggled with being able to put plays together.

“Get back to practice, work on it. FIx a lot of the mental errors, work on our game like we know how to play, I think we would’ve won that game if we didn’t have our own mental errors,” said Senior Wyatt Alexander.

Alexander, who missed the last baseball season with a torn ACL was calm and collected about the loss and still has very high hopes for the rest of the season.

“I’ve got two words: lock in and grind,” said Senior Peyton Brooks.

Brooks had a good day at the plate going 2-3 with a triple. Getting back to the grind will be of the utmost importance to him as he looks to lead the lions to a successful season. He hopes to carry this momentum from his game into the rest of the season looking to repeat as an all-conference team honoree.

The LHS baseball team takes on Smoky Hill on Tuesday at home starting at 4:30, as they look to get into the win column for their second game of the season.
