Reagan O’Connor, a member of our very own Lion’s Roar Now, has recently been appointed a State Thespian Officer!
At the Colorado Thespian Conference, also known as Thescon, O’Connor will be one of the 10 officers who help plan, organize and improve Thescon as a whole.
Usually this occurs around the second weekend of December, and it includes every thespian troupe in Colorado. Sometimes people even fly out from different states like Utah. Essentially, all the theater troupes meet up and have the opportunity to attend different workshops, where you can learn how to dance or learn how to tie ropes, and all sorts of other theatre-related activities.
“My job as an STO is to help plan and figure out the different workshops we’re going to do, or different fun events. Like for example the STOs last year made a Dress to Impress video with famous characters from musicals.”
There are also main stage ceremonies all nights, along with performances from two high schools: one musical and one play. To perform with your school on mainstage, you have to be eligible to be judged and then voted on from there. Also, every person at thescon has to do an IE, or individual event, and if you do really well in your event you can also perform on mainstage on the closing night. Last year, the recent LHS graduate Elize Neff, performed her IE on mainstage.
“The STOs also have to go on stage and they help collect donations for different theatre companies locally and for thescon in general… starting from the beginning of March I’ll be meeting up with the other STOS and during the summer, with the board and all the other STOs. It’s gonna be a really amazing experience.”
O’Connor has already started to text the STOs and she has a group chat with them. They’re going to have lunch soon and do fun activities to get to know each other.
“It’s gonna be a really cool way to help our local community with passion for theater while meeting new people and inspiring anyone who wants to apply in the future.”
Like last year, there were only two juniors and the other STOs were seniors. This year, it is about half and half. One especially exciting aspect is that O’Connor is the first person from Littleton High School who has ever been an STO, which is a common theme among other high schools this year.
