Last week, wrestling state finals took place at the Pepsi Center. The event hosted athletes from all over Colorado, including Littleton’s Karsten Beich.
“It was sweet, there was hundreds of people in the stands looking down, tons of great wrestlers, and super good wrestling to watch. I got to eat sleep and breath wrestling for three days,” said Beich.
Beich was beat out in the first two rounds, but was the first Littleton wrestler in several years to go to state finals.
“The first day, I didn’t really know what to expect. I was just so out of my element so I didn’t wrestle very well, and the second day I knew what was going to happen so I wrestled way better,” said Beich.
The tournament took place from Thursday, February 20th to Saturday, February 22nd and featured wrestlers from 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A high schools around the state.
“There was probably around, I’d say, 200 wrestlers and a couple thousand people in the stands, I think,” said Beich.
“This season was great. I think it’s for sure a turning point in the program. There’s lots of kids that are getting way better than they were last year and next year hopefully we’ll have winning records. And for me I think that was also a turning point because last year wasn’t that great and this year I’m forty and ten [40-10],” said Beich.
More students joined Littleton’s wrestling team this season than in years past. The outlook is bright for the team’s next season.
