We all have those friends, acquaintances, or family members who post on their social media how important it is to wear a mask. Then, their next post is their lack of mask wearing and social distancing. It’s getting extremely hypocritical at this point. Just because you think you are invincible does not mean you are.
The coronavirus pandemic began to get serious in March. It is now December and cases are at an all time high. Colorado was one of the first states to have a growth in cases, but also get it back under control. Now, with the winter season approaching, a popular one in Colorado, we are being dragged back to the top. In the past week, our governor has tested positive, the Broncos lacked a quarterback in Sunday’s game against the saints, and the Denver mayor flew down south to Texas and drove to Mississippi to visit family completely ignoring his request made to Denver citizens to stay home. These are three huge examples of covid negatively impacting our state.

Those examples do not even count for the recent closure of businesses around the county. We no longer can eat inside of a restaurant (again) and when we will return to normal school is nowhere in sight.
With ski season beginning to approach, it is only going to get worse from here. I personally, am not a skier, but many of my friends are. There are people traveling from around the country, and world, to visit Colorado slopes. Our state is becoming a mixing pot and the only thing cooking is Covid-19. The ski industry is one of the things that the Colorado economy highly depends on, but this season it is not safe.
There are also those posting pictures with family during Thanksgiving. As someone whose entire family lives across the country, I was unable to spend the holiday with my family, but that did not stop everyone else. With the holiday season approaching and more time off of school, it is only going to get worse.
Another hypocritical viewpoint is from those hanging out with large groups of people. I know as humans we are meant to be social, I love hanging out with my friends, but it is not worth it to put those around me in danger. The same people who reshare those cute aesthetic coronavirus awareness posts are the same ones going to parties, traveling, staying in large groups, etc. To be quite honest, it isn’t fair to your friends or you when Covid-19 is spread amongst the crowd.
If you contact trace everyone you have seen on a daily basis, you are around hundreds of people in a week. If you count everyone you have a class with, the other people at Target, and those at the grocery store, those are many people you are putting in danger by being around.
Moral of the story: do not be a hypocrite when we are living in a scary history book moment. The sooner we all cooperate, the sooner we will be able to go back to something decently normal. You don’t want to be the hypocrite on social media when it comes to this.
