Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has won his NFL record 5th Super Bowl MVP award for a big win over the Kansas City Chiefs in a limited attendance game.

Super Bowl LV had the hype to be one of the most intense Super Bowl games in history. Tampa Bay Buccaneers were having the first home game in Super Bowl history and also made history by winning. With the two best quarterbacks, young Patrick Mahomes (25) against experienced Tom Brady (43) it was going to be a showdown for the ring or so we thought.

Patrick Mahomes went into the game with high hopes riding as last year’s Super Bowl champion. Even though his performance last night did not indeed show that. Mahomes is suffering from Turf Toe which was apparent in his playing last night. He ended the game with 26 for 49 passes and 270 yard with 2 interceptions. Brady really lived up his title as the GOAT completing 21 of 29 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns in the 31-9 win.

Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski celebrating the win

Brady, winning his 7th Super Bowl title, had great chemistry on the field with former New England Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski for a pair of touchdowns, Leonard Fournette scored on a 27-yard touchdown run, and a Brady handoff to Antonio Brown in the endzone. This game was exceptional all the way around for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It truly showed that Tom Brady is one of the greatest of all times with 7 rings (more wins than any team in the NFL franchise) and 5 MVP rings (leading Joe Montana who has 3).

The national anthem was performed by R&B singer, Grammy nominee Jazmine Sullivan and Grammy nominee and country singer Eric Church. “America The Beautiful” was performed by Grammy-award winning artist H.E.R. Warren “WAWA” Snipe perfumed both songs in American Sign Language. National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman received a poem before the game as well.

The Super Bowl LV Pepsi Halftime Show was headlined by The Weeknd. Doing something new to fit the times of Covid, his stage set up was in the stands. He eventually did make it down to the field with his dancers, but there was indeed no stage set up for the performance. He performed some of his hits including Starboy, Can’t Feel My Face, and Blinding Lights. The Weeknd had given millions of his own money himself, to make sure the performance was what he had envisioned. They had obviously made lots of changes from a typical Halftime Show to ensure Covid-19 safety. The show was something unique and showed the talents of The Weeknd. It was nice to have a concert to remind us of times before Covid.

The commercials were quite boring this year. They were not as political as I had imagined they would have been. Some of my favorites include the Doordash commercial with Sesame Street supporting local businesses, State Farm (including Aaron Rodgers, Paul Rudd, Patrick Mahomes, Jake from State Farm, and Drake), Cheetos “It Wasn’t Me” (including Ashton Kutcher, his wife Mila Kunis, and of course the 2000 hit maker Shaggy).

Overall, Super Bowl LV gave us a sense of normalcy of life before Covid. It was enjoyable to watch a game with the family and great food despite the pandemic.
