The Lion Pride Marching Band last performed in December of 2019. It has been one and a half years since the band has performed, but their return to the stage at the State Fair was spectacular.

After a summer of working hard, the band marched in the Western Welcome Week parade on August 21.

“It was nice to get out in front of people and perform and show where we are and what we’ve done since pre-COVID,” said senior Delia Leonard.

This past weekend on August 28, the band marched and performed at the State Fair as the host band. This means that at the last fair the band won first place overall, and as an honor for this they became the host band. They do not get to be scored in the final rankings, but they did still perform and represent LHS.

“The audience seemed to really enjoy it and we sounded good,” said senior Abby Sawicki. This was the first time the band got to perform their show music for an audience.

Sawicki is one of the drum majors this year and she is looking forward to the rest of the year with the band. The scrum majors get to attend drum major retreats at the hand competitions to foster their love of band.

“I’m excited to have a normal marching band season again…and I’m looking forward to everything that band has to offer,” said Sawicki.

The band is starting up again on September 18 with their first competition and will continue for a full season. The band will also get to perform their show at football games for all students to enjoy.

After a year with very little performance, this years group is ready to take on all marching band challenges and enjoy the ride.
