The pandemic has created lots of new traditions both at Littleton High School and in society as a whole. Outdoor events in particular seem to be an aspect of COVID-19 that might continue solely because it’s fun to be outside.

For example, the pep rally and the dance were held outdoors and students across the board seemed to enjoy themselves more than they would have indoors. This is the first time Littleton High School has ever held both the dance and the pep assembly outside, and honestly, it was a nice change.

“I think the bottom line is masks and outdoor events are here to stay and they will become a part of our culture at school until the pandemic dies down,” said senior Harvey Rainwater.

Students loved the pep rally because they weren’t crammed in their sections and had space to spread out and show school spirit authentically. This is something that is hard to accomplish indoors due to limited space that forces COVID-19 restrictions to be more strict.

Similarly, nothing but fantastic comments were made about the dance being outside, students and teachers seemed to enjoy the cooler temperature and extensive space to dance.

On top of this, the theme for the dance was “under the stars”, one could argue being outside underneath the actual stars was much more fitting, than the typical cardboard cut-outs and balloons used in previous years.

Across the board the student body seemed to enjoy the outdoor pep rally and the dance, this will most likely become a new, and fun tradition at our school for years to come.

“High school flies by and you want to enjoy every moment. I’m almost done with my high school career and that seems crazy to me,” said senior Harvey Rainwater.

Although COVID-19 has changed a lot of things, arguably for the worst, forcing us to do something different this year may turn out for the better in the future. In the future, I think that we can definitely expect and hope for more outdoor pep rallies and school dances.
