When the first Matrix movie was released in 1999, there was an uproar. At that time there hadn’t been anything made that had the storytelling like the Matrix does. It was groundbreaking and opened the door to many movies like it.
However, after the first movie was released, the franchise started to go down hill. I know I am not the only one who doesn’t like the second and third Matrix movies. And for a long time, I thought there wouldn’t be anything to fix the ending of the third movie. But then I saw the trailer for Matrix Resurrections.
My family and I went into the movie with low expectations. But we came out not being able to believe what we had just seen. The new movie brought the love of the franchise back into my heart. I felt like I was seeing the greatness that was the first movie all over again.
But to my dismay, there are many people who disagree with my assessment of the movie. The movie only has a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes and 5.7/10 on IMDb. This means that there is a shockingly large amount of people who do not like the movie, which I can’t understand.
The new movie brings new and old characters into the mix. Neo, is still our hero and main character. However for a lot of the movie he is without his friends because Trinity is still stuck believing the Matrix. Agent Smith is back with a vengeance. His goal is to follow and target Neo, however his story line take a surprising twist at the end of the movie. My favorite new character is Bugs, a young girl who is out of the Matrix and helps rescue Neo and tries to save Trinity. We are also introduced to the new antagonist, The Analyst. We thought Agent Smith was bad, but the Analyst takes evil and manipulating to a whole new level.
Matrix Resurrections is full of shocking revelations and plot twists that had me on the edge of my seat. There were many times where I believed the deceptions that the writers developed in this new movie. The first in the series was known for the amazing plot. There was a perfect combination of revealed secrets and action. But then two and three were only action and I missed the story behind it all. But Matrix Resurrections brings back the fantastic combination that we got attached to when the franchise was begun.
I know that a lot of the reviews online are against this new movie. But if you just give it a chance you can see one of the best story telling movies that has been produced in a long time.
