The new school year welcomes lots of new people to the staff at LHS. Madi Wells is one of nine new staff members at our school. A former Littleton student, she is very happy to be back at LHS.
It was not hard to convince Ms. Wells to come back to Littleton. She subbed for many classes during COVID, quickly falling in love with her alma mater.
She said that what stood out to her was “how special of a place Littleton is compared to a lot of other schools.”
Ms. Wells participated in a lot of LHS activities while being a student here. She was in volleyball, marching band, FBLA, unified basketball, NHS, tennis, and ultimate frisbee. Ms. Wells hopes to start an arts and crafts club at school, so keep your eyes out for that!
She is very excited to be back at LHS. She enjoys the familiarity of her surroundings and likes the fact that she doesn’t have to worry about finding things.
“It’s a very comfortable environment to be in.”
Things at our school haven’t changed very much since Ms. Wells has been here. The biggest difference is that the MYP program has been added to our school.
In her opinion, “How we teach the freshman and sophomore classes is new.”
Most people at Littleton know how it feels to be hit by a door inside our school. As a student here Ms. Wells was hit by a door her freshman year. Though as her teaching career has started here, she hasn’t been hit by a door just yet.
Ms. Wells has a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. During her undergraduate years, she thought she was going to become a doctor. But then she took a teaching class for another credit and fell in love with teaching students.
“I loved working with students and seeing their growth throughout the semester,” she said.
She is teaching Integrated Science 1-2, IB Biology I, and Genetics starting second semester.
“My favorite thing about science is that you get to, I mean especially teaching it, like you get to experience it in real life and like everything you learn in class is applicable to the world outside.”
Ms. Wells has a different teaching style compared to others. She is bringing what she learned in her master’s degree into the classroom. She is very interested in focusing on student-centered learning.
“Bringing in aspects of students having a say in what we’re doing in class.”
Looking forward to this coming year, Ms. Wells is very excited to be a part of the Littleton traditions once again.
