Although both do their job of supplying the masses with fast music streaming, people cannot come to an agreement about which app is better. Nowadays, people no longer have to turn on the radio or listen to a vinyl record in order to hear their favorite music artists. Instead, with the quick press of a few buttons, you can instantly listen to your favorite song or artist just by holding your phone.

Some of the reasons that people like Spotify music better is that, for one, at the end of the year the app has something called Spotify Wrapped. This is where you can see a summary of the music you listened to that year, how many minutes you listened to music, and how much of a superfan you might be of your favorite artist. It also has podcasts that are not offered on apple music.

On the other hand, Apple Music users prefer Apple over Spotify due to its spatial and lossless audio. A lot of users prefer lossless audio, which avoids a lot of data loss when songs are compressed from their original source giving users CD-quality sound from a digital file. They also offer consumers 90 million songs which is almost 20 million more than what Spotify offers.

While talking to Littleton students, I also noticed a split in opinions on which app was superior to the other. For example, junior Brooke Holman stated “I like apple music because I think it’s easier to make playlists and download music.” Making playlists and having playlists for any task you may be doing has become popular among youth. So finding an easy-access way to make playlists could tip the scales on which platform is better.

Apple users aren’t the only ones that have strong opinions on this topic. Senior Rose Renner, an avid Spotify user, said “I like Spotify better than Apple Music. There’s more unreleased Lana Del Rey and it’s way easier to add liked songs and add them to a queue.” Unreleased music is definitely a big part of what youth are listening to today, rather than just mainstream music. The fact that Spotify contains unreleased music for the masses could be a big part of which platform users decide to use.

Overall, both music streaming apps have their downfalls and positive features that may draw users to pick one over the other. Both do their job well, in which they are able to provide an easy way for anyone to listen to music, no matter where they are.
