This past week was the winter spirit week, ending with our annual winter dance. This year’s spirit week was extra special because for the first year in a while, we partnered with the Make A Wish Foundation.
We were raising money for three year old Harper, who has kidney disease. Her dream was to go to Disney World and our goal was to make that happen. We had a successful week, with lots of participation in our spirit days. We also had multiple fundraising events, like the teacher versus student basketball game and restaurant nights with businesses in the area. We raised a lot of money from these events, our restaurant nights at Cherry Cricket and Romanos were very successful.
We were able to raise our goal of $3,500 to send Harper and her family to Disney World, and we finished the week with the dance being on Saturday. The theme was Enchantment Under the Sea, in honor of Harper.
Our spirit days were also themed around Harper and some of her interests, like dress as a Disney character day and our color wars for the pep rally with her favorite colors. There was a lot of student involvement in the week, and there was a huge turnout for all of the dress up days.
Despite the snow, the dance had a good turnout, and everyone loved the ocean themed decorations. Students love the opportunity to spend time with their friends and get all dressed up.
Sophomore Dom Green said,
“It was fun to have the chance to hang out with friends from school in a different way.”
Overall, it was a great week and students and staff were able to unite and help make dreams come true with the Make A Wish Foundation. Well done lions!
