March 20th was a huge day for many people. The release day of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This is the 5th game in the Animal Crossing collection and seemingly the most popular.
It became the most talked about event aside from the obvious pandemic. It also came out during a great time, when the lockdowns started becoming serious. It’s a super wholesome and relaxing game so it’s perfect to help during such a stressful situation.
The game is based on an island where the player creates an island and becomes the owner or mayor (as the game calls it) of that island and the player can build and decorate the island however they want. Characters, which are called “villagers” in the game, move into the island as time goes on and can be interacted with and become other characters that can be played with. This game grows as time goes on which means it makes it so the gameplay doesn’t get tiring and boring. Every single day comes with a new addition or event which makes the game overall extremely entertaining. It also makes it so during a time where everyone is stuck in one place players can still get an escape and a new atmosphere, even if it’s only through the screen.
Because New Horizons is on the Nintendo Switch it can also become a multiplayer game. Friends can join others games and essentially become another villager on each other’s islands and it can be played together. This makes it perfect to still “hangout” with friends while staying home and social distancing. It also makes the game even better and makes it feel like it’s another reality away from the real reality.
Even though the game is expensive and it can only be played through another expensive device, it’s definitely worth looking into if affordable and possible. If not, the developers offer a free game called Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp that can be downloaded for free on your phone. These games are overall such a relaxing escape and are super wholesome. It’s perfect to take your mind off anything, even for a little while.
