Valentine’s Day is coming up and one of my favorite ways to celebrate is to watch some of my favorite romance movies. Everyone hopes for the kind of love you see on screens, and that can lead to inspiration for this Valentines Day.
Here’s a list of some of my favorite movies to watch in honor of Valentine’s day:
The Notebook (2004) rated PG-13-
The Notebook, starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, is a very well known romance movie, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. This movie is something I’ve been watching since I was little, and it’s always been one of my favorites. It follows the story of Noah and Allie, two teenagers who fall in love but are torn apart due to many obstacles. It’s a great story that shows the lengths people will go to for true love, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a classic romance.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999) rated PG-13-
Of all the movies on this list, 10 Things I Hate About You is my favorite. This movie is loosely inspired by Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”, and added a more modern twist to an old story. The film is about two sisters who are polar opposites. The older sister, Kat, prefers to be on her own, while her younger sister Bianca loves being in the spotlight. Their father says that Bianca isn’t allowed to date until Kat does, and a boy at her school tries to find a way around this rule in order to take Bianca to prom. This movie has a great plot, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. However, it does have some mature humor that might not be the best for younger viewers.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018) rated PG-13-
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is one of my favorite movies. Its inspired by the book trilogy written by Jenny Han, with two other movies to follow the rest of the books, and it’s been one of my favorites ever since I read the books a few years ago. It’s about a girl named Lara Jean Covey, a high schooler that had never been in a relationship. She begins a fake relationship with one of her old friends and the movie follows her as she navigates through the year. I think this story is very well written, and a really sweet watch if you just want a cheesy romance. The 2nd movie, To All the Boys: Always and Forever, specifically takes place during Valentine’s day to add even more of a festive feel.
Flipped (2010) rated PG-
Flipped is a movie about two young teenagers navigating middle school and relationships. It’s a wholesome coming of age movie about a girl and the boy next door that she’s always loved. I first watched this movie, then realized it was also a book. The novel, written by Wendelin Van Draanen, is a quick read that’s really well written, and the movie perfectly encapsulates the feel of the book. It’s a sweet love first love story, and I would recommend it to anyone this Valentine’s Day.
Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown (1975) not rated-
Unlike the rest of the movies on the list, this is not a romance movie. There’s a Charlie Brown film about most holidays, and Valentine’s Day is no exception. This short film follows Charlie Brown and his emotions about the holiday. He wishes for someone to send him a valentine, and watches as his peers give and receive them. I think this is a really sweet story with some fan favorite characters. This is a super family friendly movie, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something to watch this February!
