On Wednesday, March 16th the boys had a dual swim meet against Columbine and Golden High School from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. After their season was cut short last year, the boys are beyond ready to drop time and have full access to the pool. This was the boys’ second swim meet of the season and although no massive time drops were made, they are on the path to achieving their goals in the next couple of weeks.
The Lionfish have been in the water for around 3 weeks now and have begun increasing the yardage during practice to increase strength and endurance for maximum payoff at the end of the season. The boys dropped time from their first meet last week which is a sign that they’re going to keep dropping time as they get stronger in the next couple of weeks.
They swam a couple of seconds below their season PRs from last year, with the exception of sophomore Caleb Schmitz who swam a fantastic 500 freestyle. Schmitz dropped approximately 15 seconds in his event. His original time was 6:11.78 and he finished his race at 5.56.49.
Although the boys were a little bit irked by their performance today, any time drop this early in the season is a good indicator of the progress that will be made in the following meets.
Knowing our prior league champs, massive time drops, and state qualifying times are definitely coming in the near future.
