Every time my family and I go out into public with family friends, or really any adult, my sister and I get asked the question, “Have you decided on your college yet?”
Adults have made choosing a college such a large part of your life that it stresses kids who aren’t at that stage where they need to worry about their college. College has become something that feels so incredibly important where you go, that it feels overwhelming. There are so many colleges and you need to figure out which one fits you at the time when you are still figuring out who you are.
Parents also give pressure to attend college, even if you think college is not for you. Some kids are expected to have researched their college before they have chosen what high school they are going to.
College has so many factors that go into it that it becomes hard to not only narrow down your choices but know which is best for you. Along with acceptance rates going down year after year, it can take a long time to find and narrow down colleges. However, this doesn’t mean you need to start your search earlier, as many people suggest. It just creates more stress on a young mind when it comes to picking a college, which is never needed.
While adults may think that they are creating good conversation they can create unwanted stress. Kids should not be worried about what college they are going to and parents and people around kids would make it known that where you choose doesn’t dictate who you are.
