The LHS Cross Country team kicked off their season on Saturday, August 24 where they look to repeat a successful season. The boys finished 5 in a group of 15 schools, while the girls finished 6 in a group of 11 schools.
For the girls, Junior Natalie Lueker finished in 16th out of 97 runners, reaching the top time for LHS. Meanwhile, on the boys side, 3 racers placed top 20 out of 128. With Junior Rowan Ingrahm placing 17, Junior Hank Chojacki placing 19, and Sophomore Tyler West placing 20.
“I’m looking forward to the championship part of the season, hopefully we’ll become league champions again” said Ingrahm
The Lions cross country team has their goals aimed towards top as they go throughout this new season, and a new opportunity to begin a legacy of runners at LHS.
In the newcomers bracket, Freshman Sophia Bailey came out on top of 63 other racers, beating second place by 1 minute and 12 seconds. Astounding numbers for her first ever high school race.
“I’ve been running since 7th grade, so I have more experience, and I’ve put in a lot of hard work” said Bailey
The team will continue to work hard all throughout the season, this first race was just the beginning for this year’s runners, as they look ahead to their next race on August, 30.
