The EPIC Campus, which is short for Explorative Pathways for Innovative Careers, is set to open next school year. A general information session was held at Littleton recently with multiple specified sessions to be held in the future.
At EPIC, students have the opportunity to choose from six pathways that help them explore and prepare for their future career interests. The pathways are Aerospace, Computer Science, Health Sciences, Business & Entrepreneurship, Construction Trades, and Natural Resources.
EPIC is similar to a community college, as students study different areas of interest along with students from other LPS schools while remaining on the same campus. This building should be familiar to LHS students as it is directly across the street, making it easily accessible for those who choose to enroll. EPIC students still remain students of their original school and still maintain classes and extracurriculars but attend EPIC classes in 2 hours 45-minute blocks, 2-3 times a week.
Included on the campus is a coffee shop run by marketing students, an industry partnership room, a commons area, a courtyard, and multiple areas for each pathway where students can get a hands-on experience.
The pathways are created for a wide variety of students, “We know that there’s going to be kids that really don’t know what they want to do: they may want to go to a two-year, they may want to go to a four-year, they may want to go to the military, and they may want to go right to work. That’s fine, we want to help them realize that while they’re with us,” said EPIC Principal Mr. Amonson.
Students are well prepared for a future career within their chosen pathway with Mr. Amonson describing, “We really want students to graduate with a better understanding of the opportunities that are out there,” adding, “What we’ve done with these pathways is essentially create a pre-apprenticeship to feed right into the industry.”
There will be more informational meetings later in the school year and more information can be found on the EPIC Website.
