FBLA dominates at districts

This past Tuesday, the LHS FBLA chapter competed at Districts at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds against Arapahoe, Heritage, and Vista Peak.

“It was a little hectic but overall everybody did really well and everybody had a lot of fun”

FBLA President Amelia Sacco

This competition is where students compete to see if they will make it to the State competition in April. If students do well enough at State, they can go on to the National competition in late June/early July.

After a two-hour delay following the snow storm on Monday night, the LHS FBLA students were ready to compete at the district competition. Because of the delay, there was no opening ceremony, but they were able attend an awards ceremony at the end of the day. Out of the around 60 Littleton students that competed, 36 made it to state. FBLA officers were very proud of their peers efforts.

At the competition, some students took a test, while others presented a project they had been working on. “A lot of them did a test so all they had to do is study on quizlet, but many did presentation events, where you do a project. For example, my event was website design, and my team and I had to make a website and then present on our website,” says President Amelia Sacco.

“It’s a really positive environment and it’s very fun to be able to grow my business skills outside of the classroom, as well as inside of the classroom”

This year, the state competition will be held at the Gaylord Convention Center in Aurora, where students stay for 2-3 nights. In order to make it to State, you have to place in a category at Districts. At the State competition, Littleton FBLA members compete against students from 11 other districts around Colorado. FBLA Historian Lane Gray says “It’s just a really fun way to be able to compete, and in order to prepare for it you just study and practice for the competition.”

FBLA is a great way for students to learn about business and get some experience in the business field before leaving for college or to find a job. Students in FBLA learn important leadership skills and are able to give back to the community through numerous volunteer opportunities. They are also able to meet lots of new and unique people and form important friendships that last over the years.

“I’ve always loved being able to meet a new group of people and be around them”
