This past weekend, starting Friday, January 31st and ending Saturday, February 1st, your Girls Varsity Swim & Dive won the League Tournament.
This meet was at the Arvada Aquatics Center against a variety of schools. These include: Arvada West High School, Bear Creek High School, Chatfield High School, Columbine High School, D’Evelyn High School, Dakota Ridge High School, Evergreen High School, Golden High School, Green Mountain High School, Lakewood High School, Ralston Valley High School, Standley Lake High School, Valor Christian High School and Wheat Ridge High School.
Overall your Lady Lionfish had an incredible competition. We won league by 63 points and concluded with a whopping 483 points in total. The 200 Free relay was a big boost in our points, and collectively helped us win the meet.
The meet included many different events, which your lions placed well in all. The events include relays, individuals and diving.
Relays
A common relay in swimming events are medleys. These are races which include all four main swimming strokes. The strokes include: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. In our 200 medley (meaning 4 lengths in total, one in each stroke) we placed second, which was really great for the team!
Next, your lionfish scored 1st in 200 free, which was very important, as it basically cleaned our path for victory as relays are worth the most points. The order of the relay was Ella Peterson, Johanna Shepala, Bea Ingels, Sam Denman, in which Denman and Shepala both had outstanding races.
Lastly, we also placed 3rd in the 400 free relay.
Individuals:
Many of the individual racers did amazing! Here is a list of all events:
- Shepala won 4th in 200 free
- Peterson placed 2nd in her 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke
- Ingles got state in 50 free
- Corrina Gapter got 5th in her 100 fly and 500 free
- Shepela and Denman were 1/10 of a second apart winning 6th and 5th in the 100 free
- Valen Orrick cut 7 second in their 100 free
- CC Smith won 6th in 100 back
- Lucy Peterson won 5th in 100 back
An important note is that our B and C teams swam in prelims, and led the team to a great position in finals, while A team rested, leading to the victory! Thanks B and C teams!
Diving:
There were two placed divers at league, who both did great. They were Junior Maddie Roth in the 1 meter, who placed 12th with 250.55 (+54.30) and Junior Kalli Lucas also in the 1 meter, who placed 11th 250.95 (66.30).
Overall, the lady lionfish performed very well, leading to a team victory! Great job to all who helped out with and performed in this race and go lions!
