On Thursday April 24, our own Littleton lions girls tennis team competed in their last regular season match against Mullen High School and celebrated their senior night. Many different matches were played at the same time, resulting in many great wins and sportsmanship between teams and players.

The seniors on the Littleton team that were celebrated during this game were Bee Chafee, Lauren Braun, Megan Nguyen, Vananh Phan, Molly Ozimek, Addison Rinehart, and Sarah Lamey. Each of these players were presented with flowers and their coach, Shelly Russell, shared about each person and their accomplishments. Not only were they celebrated for their success this season, but all other seasons they competed for Littleton High School.

Throughout the course of the sets, there were many highlights that stood out to observers that attended. Some included seniors Molly Ozimek and Vannah Phan playing a strong net game, freshman Lara Leonard and senior Marisa Pohlman having some quality deep shots to the baseline, and senior Megan Nguyen and freshman Lucy Peterson playing rational and consistent tennis throughout their sets.

About an hour into the event, there was a 30 minute lightning delay that preceded light rain. The courts were able to dry during the delay and after this postponement, the matches did continue as normal.
When interviewing junior Eva Brendlinger about how she thinks today’s match went, she stated,

“It went really well! The wind was a little bit tough at the beginning and the rain kind of came in, but it was really fun.”
Two of the Varsity wins were made by Singles 1 player Eva Brendlinger, who won 6-0 for both games and Singles 2 player Addison Rinehart who won 6-1 for both. Unified player Shelby Griffin also scored the winning point after tying the game with the support of her teammate Eva. Some of the other teams won matches against the Mullen players including Doubles 2 Emily Lesem and Annie Fox who won a set 6-4. This pair did unfortunately lose the other two sets 4-6 and 4-10 but they played hard and showed great skill in the process.
Congratulations to this amazing team for an awesome and successful season and good luck seniors!
